The loss of playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu to AC rivals, Inter Milan, shocked AC fans in the summer of 2021. Losing a player on a free transfer to your closest rivals can cause unrest amongst both the fans and a team, but AC Milan are a team bred on heritage and history, and I expect them to bounce back. Keeping veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic fit, at nearly 40 years old will be tough, but if they do, they have a goal scoring machine in their ranks. Milan will compete in all competitions this season and with an experienced, but overall young side.
AC Milan FC : Tactics & Principles
AC Milan have always been a side that field powerful, energetic players with flair. AC’s history is speckled with brilliance in players like Ruud Gullit, Paolo Maldini, Kaka and Roberto Baggio. Not much has changed, they are still a powerful side that move the ball well, control phases of play and close the ball aggressively in all areas of the pitch. Defensively AC Milan remain one of the best defending sides in the league, last season conceding just over a goal a game. Their attacking play has improved, without having to solely rely on the strength of Ibrahimovic up front. Their dribbling players Diaz and Leao draw players in well opening space to bounce the ball from the front player Ibrahimovic or Giroud and get in behind more effectively than previous seasons.
AC Milan FC: Serie A PREDICTIONS & What to Expect
Rivals Inter Milan ran away with the league title last season with AC Milan finishing in 2nd position some 12 points adrift. The team last won the Serie A title in 2011, some 11 seasons ago and will be desperate to compete for the title this season as the dominance of Juventus looks to be fragile given player movement. Regardless of AC Milan being a more well rounded team it will be crucial to keep players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Giroud in condition to positively affect their young side through a long season. AC Milan FC: UEFA Champions League PREDICTIONS & What to Expect
AC Milan will be a competing side in the group stages and will do well to advance from this stage. Analysing AC’s squad it is hard to see where the spark needed to compete in the final stages of such a big tournament will come from. I think they look defensively good but to consider their young attacking players against the worlds best defences, I think it is a step too far. Bet365 currently have AC Milan at 101.00 to win the Champions League
AC Milan FC: Coppa Italia PREDICTIONS & What to Expect
AC have not won the Coppa Italia since 2003. Although every season is different usually a side that wins tournaments have a creative spark and usually a little maverick in attacking approach. AC look a solid side again this season and display consistency in their defence and patterns of play. I cannot see AC as contenders for the Coppa Italia, with their consistent and workmanlike performances being better suited to long term aspirations like Serie A.
