france football team national football team prediciton for the world cup

The French National Team has been at the pinnacle of world football for decades. It’s boasted some of the greatest footballers the world has ever seen. Michael Platini, Zinedine Zidane, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and many more have taken the world of football by storm year after year, decade after decade. Les Blues have a host of major honours in their trophy cabinet; two world cups and two Euros for that matter.

France National Team: Tactics & Principles

Les Blues have become a frightening team to play against in recent years. Former World Cup winner Didier Deschamps has put together a team that is defensively as strong as any. With the attacking players they have been blessed with, France counter every attack with blistering pace with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele bearing down on threadbare defences. They work hard off the ball with  N’golo Kante who seems to be absolutely everywhere, breaking up attacks and progressing the ball to more creative players like Pogba who move the ball forward with precision and pace to the forwards.

Qualifying for the World Cup: Predictions & What to expect

It’s obvious that France are the second strongest favourites to win the World Cup. They are the defending champions after all, winning the 2018 World Cup in Russia. They have stuttered more recently, especially in the Euro 2020 campaign where they were knocked out In the quarter finals by Switzerland. However, throughout the qualification rounds, they seem to have found their mojo again, especially with the re-introduction of Karim Benzema. Bet365 and many other bookies see them as the second strongest favourites to win the World Cup for the 3rd time in their history with odds of 7/1, better only by Brazil at 6/1. (Click to read our latest World Cup Qualifying betting tips and predictions).

France National Team Players: Top 5

The France National team has been able to produce world class player consistently thanks to the INF Clairefontaine set up which builds the most gifted footballers from around France, particularly players found on the streets of Paris where less fortunate kids spend most of their time. Many French national players are immigrants who then achieve their potential thanks to Clairefontaine.

Paul Pogba

Paul Labille Pogba is one of the world’s most technically gifted and physically dominant central midfielders, if not the best. He initially was at Manchester United but then sought a move away to Juventus where his stock rose astronomically, playing with the cultured, legendary Andrea Pirlo and the workhorse, Marchisio. After a couple of eye-catching seasons in Turin in the Serie A and the Champions League, he then moved back to Manchester United for a whopping 80 million British Pounds. He’s yet to hit the heights of Juventus but for his country he has been immense. Partnered by Matuidi a few years ago, and now Kante, who both did the dirty work for him, he seems a different player for Les Blues. Maybe we see the real Paul Pogba when he puts on the blue jersey. Karim Benzema

Known to many as the Prince of Madrid, Karim Benzema has become a household name after his big move to the Spanish capital back in 2009. He’d already won the Ligue 1 four times at Lyon and the domestic cups twice each. Ever since he moved to Madrid, he’s won the La Liga 3 times and the Champions League 4 times, 3 times consecutively (a record that will not be broken soon) and several Club World Cups with a few domestic cup trophies as well. He’s played over 400 games for Los Blancos and scoring over 200 goals. He was exiled from the National set up a long time ago but Deschamps has brought him back in and you can see the resurgence in the French attack ever since. He will be key to Les Blues chances of winning the World Cup.

Kylian Mbappe

Seen by many as the future Ballon D’Or star after Messi and Ronaldo retire, Mbappe is already one of the best players in the world at the young age of 22. He initially broke onto the biggest stage playing for Monaco, even helping the French club reach an unprecedented UEFA Champions League. However, it wasn’t going to be long before the French big boys at Paris Saint Germain would snap him up. He’s already scored over 200 career goals and is quite simply the most dangerous striker/winger in world football right now. He won the World Cup when he was just 18 and he wasn’t a passenger either. He was the difference. We all expect him to eventually be the best footballer in the world quite soon. (Read our PSG betting Predictions and Odds – Mbappe’s current team.)

Antoine Griezmann

Griezmann is another danger forward that Les Blues consider a blessing to have in their ranks. A gifted left-footed forward, Griezmann is one of the most lethal footballers currently in the world. He initially impressed for Real Sociedad scoring 46 goals in 180 appearances but it’s at Atletico Madrid where his star shone brightest. He scored 94 goals in 180 appearances in Madrid and has featured 102 times for Les Blues, scoring 42 goals along the way. Griezmann is a fantastic link up player, a lethal finisher and an intelligent striker who makes great runs and a fox in the box. He can also score absolute belters that will have your jaw dropping more often than not. (Read our Atletico de Madrid betting Predictions and Odds – Griezmann’s current team.)

N’golo Kante

The man who all football fans agree never gets tired. He’s always running but when you finally catch him standing, you’ll always see him smiling. The diminutive defensive midfielder has this unstoppable knack of winning the ball from opposition players and then making the right passes to launch his team on a counter, and he does it all the time. He wasn’t always in the limelight though, but eventually moving to Leicester City, he got the praises he deserved. He won the Premier League twice – first with Leicester and then the following season with Chelsea which earned him the Player of the Season award as a defensive midfielder. That is a rarity in football and only exemplifies the quality he has. He also won the Champions League and Europa League with Chelsea, constantly finding his name in the UEFA Team of the Season. For France, he’s the key that unlocks Paul Pogba with that midfield due being one of the main cogs in Les Blues’ 2018 World Cup victory. Who is France’s National Team Manager?

One of the few players in football history to have won the World Cup as a player, captain and a manager, Didier Deschamps has done it all in football. He played over 400 matches in his senior club career as a hard-man defensive midfielder and has managed the likes of Juventus, Monaco, and Marseille before being appointed as Les Bleus’s gaffer. It’s no surprise that the French National team has a defensive set up that is dominant on the counter. Then again, why wouldn’t you employ defensive tactics with the quality the team has in Kimpembe, Varane, Hernandez, Kante and the pass and deadly finishing of Mbappe, Griezmann and Benzema? It’s already won them the World Cup. Maybe it’s a case of “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.”
