Since the phenomenal Roberto Mancini twenty years ago, Lazio have been an above-average Serie A side. They have, collectively, performed well but have a knack for nurturing top-quality strikers for sale into bigger European or Italian clubs. Pavel Nedved, Hernan Crespo, and of late, the goalscoring machine, Ciro Immobile. For their formidable goal-scoring capabilities, defensively they have struggled to maintain good defensive records in recent seasons. This season, it looks to be much of the same with the transfers of Pedro, Felipe Anderson, and Toma Basic. One could infer that a more robust defense should have been a priority for a side that has averaged over a goal conceded for the last five seasons.
S.S Lazio: Tactics & Principles
Lazio are an exciting side and have been for decades. They score goals with their preferred formation of the attacking 4-3-3. Immobile is the point in the front three and has proved to be an effective hold-up player on both the domestic and international stage. Lazio added seasoned winger, Pedro to the ranks this season, he arrives from A.S Roma on a free transfer to compete for a space in the front three. Both new signings Pedro and Felipe Anderson have played in the EPL where crossing is a huge part of attacking play. It could be inferred that they have been added to the Lazio ranks to provide further crossing ability to the frontman Immobile, who is strong both in the air and on the ground.
S.S Lazio: Serie A PREDICTIONS & What to Expect
Despite their winning Serie A twice in the past, Lazio have not been amongst the top two since the turn of the century which will be disappointing for a club of Lazio’s size. Success for Lazio this season would be to secure a Champions League spot. They do not have the strength to compete with the other Championship chasing sides, yet they are a consolidated Serie A side. S.S Lazio: Europa League PREDICTIONS & What to Expect
Ciro Immobile will be chasing Simone Inzaghi’s record of becoming all-time top goalscorer for Lazio in Europe this season. He is also on target to become Lazio’s all-time top goalscorer in Serie A at the same time. Should Immobile have a good start to the season, his presence could be enough for Lazio to have a good Europa Cup run. Without Immobile, I cannot see Lazio as a side able to compete for the Europa Cup, such as the quality of the club in this competition. S.S Lazio: Coppa Italia PREDICTIONS & What to Expect
Lazio cannot be written off in the Coppa Italia, a side that has won this competition seven times should be seen as a threat to any team; especially a side that has won it five times since the turn of the century. Lazio, despite their struggles in recent seasons, have the fourth-best record in this competition and will see this tournament as attainable silverware. Lazio’s style of relentless attacking, in tournaments such as this, can work in their favor with the game-by-game format. Consistency has been Lazio’s Achilles heel but throwing caution to the wind is exactly what is required in tournaments such as the Coppa Italia.
